On 5 December 2024, the Umbrella Refugee Committee (URC) co-hosted a roundtable discussion titled “Building Bridges: From Uncertainty to Clarity – The Importance of Reliable Information for Asylum Seekers” with the Network of Afghanistan Diaspora Organisations in Europe (NADOE).
Participant organisations
With a fantastic turnout that exceeded expectations, representatives from these organisations and members of the Umbrella Refugee Committee (URC) gathered to discuss how we can better support refugees in Belgium
Why “building bridges”?
Because the goal was to exchange insights and discuss collaborative methodologies to improve the provision of information to asylum seekers. The discussion focused on a project designed to deliver interactive info sessions in asylum seekers’ shelters.
This project, conducted by NADOE and funded through CONEX proejct of IOM and Fedasil, aimed to build trust with asylum seekers and refugees. Using peer-led approaches and practical tools, it focused on understanding their needs and providing them with the knowledge to access available support. Information sessions were held in multiple languages to ensure accessibility for all participants.
A heartfelt thank you to all who contributed to the success of this event. We look forward to more collaborations that continue to drive positive change!
