The Umbrella Refugee Committee actively promotes integration and cosmopolitanism among refugees and host societies by regularly organising events where forcibly displaced people can showcase their cultures.
Examples of these events include concerts, art exhibitions, films screenings, theatre performances, book et game fairs, sports tournaments, conferences on refugee-related topics, and handcraft and food bazaars. Through these initiatives, we use art and empathy to transcend national boundaries and promote safe community spaces based on respect and mutual understanding.
A notable example of this effort is our role as the main organisers of the annual Brussels Refugee Week together with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the support of the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region. Scheduled around World Refugee Day (June 20th), this multi-days event proposed et led by refugees aims to honour the voices, culture, strengths, struggles, and resilience of forcibly displaced people.
By bringing people together through art, sports, and shared experiences, at the Umbrella Refugee Committee we raise awareness and build bridges of solidarity and empathy.
Keep an eye on our events and join us in creating a world where diversity is cherished!
